Shift problem narrowed.

I have been having trouble shifing into first gear lately. I first thought that it was a shift linkage problem b/c i have a lot of play in my shifter. So i got energy suspension bushings and put them in and they didn't help. So i have narrowed down what it may be. I think it coud be the linkage but i don't think so. Tomorrow i'm goin to get a linkage out of my parts car and put it in and see if that helps. What i truly think that is it is the pressure plate is bad or the throw out bearing is goining. I'm thinking maybe a finger broke off the pressure plate of maybe it is just going bad. The last thing that i think it maybe is the transmission. It could be but i think that it is very unlikely. With only 120,000 miles i'm leaning and hoping for it to be the pressure plate or throw bearing. Anyone have any input or experienced this ?

Try adjusting the clutch back to the factory specs. Check your manual for the exact process. When I first had gotten my ZC, I had trouble getting it into 1st. I then adjusted the clutch and it was fine after that. Give it a try.

yeah, adjust the clutch. when mine was getting worn (318,000 miles worn) it got hard to engage first and sometimes second (especially with the short shifter) though with the new clutch, it goes in without worry.

Dude - you're psycho...I thought I was good getting 165,000 out of my original clutch.

I put my other linkage in and it didn't help much. It stiffened up the side to side motion but it still dosen't want to go into 1st all the time. It seems like you have to be completely stopped or moving forward to get it to go into first, if your rolling back than forgot it b/c it won't go into first until you stop. Anymore ideas...

i dunno...my car sometimes is hard to get into first...and i never put it in first if i'm rolling more than 3-4mph. if i'm stopped and it won't go into first, i give it a couple good revs...then it'll slide in famously. i'd check the clutch like they say.

ok, maybe your linkage is twisted a little..try putting it in first by not pulling the shifter all the way to the left when you shift up into first. if that's not it..another thing to try..if you feel it not going into first, lift your foot off the clutch and then press it down again and try to shift again. maybe that'll help.

When it frist began to happen i thougt that it was the linkage but i replaced it and it still does it. Tomorrow it's getting looked at. I'm hoping it's a clutch but i think that it maybe the the transmission. If it is than does anyone have or know where i can get a 91 Si transmission. I don't really have a clue to what the junkyards get for one. Anyone have any estimates of what i should pay for one or for a rebuild.

Good news. A transmission shop looked at it today and said that the pressure plate is goin bad. Thats not that big of a deal so i'm happy it was the transmission.
